Description
This endangered but popular ornamental tree produces masses of purple-mauve foxglove-type flowers in late spring.
Fast growing, it will increase in height by several metres per year.
The seeds sprout easily when left on the surface of moist, warm compost. They require light to stimulate germination.
‘Stratifying’ the seeds by keeping them in the fridge for two weeks will speed up the germination process once they are sown.
They can take a few days to one month to germinate.
Sow at around 20°C, on the surface of well drained compost/soil.
Fully hardy to -15°C
